Bakewell is popular market town in Derbyshire founded in Anglo-Saxon times. A Grade I listed All Saint's Parish Church dates back to 920. Later on a market was established and Bakewell became a trading centre. The famous arched Grade I-listed bridge goes over the River Wye. This town offers lots of entertainment for the tourists from wondering around the shops, visiting attractions nearby or walking/cycling around the Peaks. Bakewell's stone cottages, stone bridge or Parish church are all magnets for painters and photographers.
Places to visit
Bakewell is a best known for it's local confection - Bakewell pudding or Mr Kipling's Bakewell tarts. When you visit Bakewell you must pop in to some of the shops selling this yummy pudding - "The Bakewell Tart Shop" or "Traditional Bakewell Pudding Shop".
Bakewell is also close to the tourist favourite Chatsworth house or Haddon Hall. A motor traffic-free track Monsal Trail starts runs from Bakewell up to the Ashford-in-the Water. This trail is suitable for both walking or cycling.
